Scopely Acquires GSN Games from Sony in $1 billion Deal

Scopely Incorporated has entered into an agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment Incorporated (TYO: 6758) to purchase GSN Games Incorporated.

The agreement entered by the mobile games developer headquartered in the United States is reportedly worth $1 billion and will see it add Sony’s Game Show Network to its portfolio.

This agreement comes months after the gaming company entered into a deal worth over $250 million with The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) to acquire FoxNext Games and Cold Iron Studios.

As a top-notch gaming developer, Scopely already has several hit titles to its name, such as Star Trek: Fleet Command, Wheel of Fortune: Free Play, and Walking Dead: Road to Survival.

In his official statement, Ravi Ahuja, chairman of SPE’s global television studios and corporate development, expressed his delight and confidence over Scopely’s ability to ‘take GSN Games to new heights.

With the new partnership, Scopely Incorporated will be in charge of GSN Games and the distribution of its innovative gaming titles like Solitaire TriPeaks and Bingo Bash. Sony Pictures Entertainment Incorporated also gets a minority state in the American mobile gaming company.
