According to the ACMA, nearly half of those who registered are 30 years old or younger, and about 80% are under the age of 40. Approximately 40% of participants have chosen to self-exclude themselves indefinitely, suggesting that they are determined to implement a long-term change.
Fewer than 20% of registrants opted for the minimum exclusion period of three months, while more than 14% have either extended their exclusion or reactivated it after the initial period.
Online gambling can cause a great deal of harm to individuals, their families, and friends, so it’s encouraging that so many people have decided to take the step and register to self-exclude.

O’Loughlin also pointed out the proactive stance taken by younger Australians, who are making early decisions to reduce online gambling in their lives. She stressed the importance of support networks and said that many registrants have chosen to involve someone to assist them during the self-exclusion process., which she said “can make the decision much easier”.
The gambling self-exclusion process is designed to be very simple, and it typically takes less than five minutes. The ACMA is set to continue promotion BetStop as an effective tool to combat the harms of online gambling and encourages those in need to make use of the service.
