A multiple bet combines several individual wagers into one, with the odds multiplying as each leg is added. This makes the bet very rewarding but also high-risk, as all selections must win for the bet to pay out. Also, one loss can result in the entire wager being lost.

Sportsbet said it voluntarily removed the multiples ads across different platforms, after considering stakeholder and community views. However, the company didn’t discontinue the ads completely as it continued to promote the offer on the official AFL website.

As seen on the site, the promotion invited users to “bet now” and introduced the company’s new same-game multi-feature, which allows for combining various in-game metrics like tackles, handballs, and clearances.

The advertisement didn’t attract any regulatory attention, as it was deemed compliant with relevant Australian laws and regulations.

Spotlight on Gambling Ads in Australia

This development comes as calls intensify for the Australian government to tighten its grip on gambling advertising. Communications Minister Annika Wells held talks with the AFL’s CEO to discuss the government’s proposal to limit gambling ads.

Among the proposed measures is a ban on gambling within an hour before and after live sports broadcasts.

Other recommendations include a limit of two ads per hour on TV and a total ban during children’s shows. Commentators would also be prohibited from discussing betting odds during live games.
