KSA Takes Firm Stance on Sports Sponsorships

Starting July 1, 2025, online gambling providers will no longer be allowed to sponsor athletes, teams, or competitions or display their branding on sports-related materials.
When the ban on non-targeted gambling advertising in public spaces was implemented in 2023, sports sponsorship was allowed to continue under a transnational arrangement for two years. Now that the grace period is coming to a close in July, the KSA has pledged to strengthen its regulatory oversight to ensure compliance with the new regulations.
The authority warns that it will firmly enforce the advertising restrictions, unlike some other countries where operators have sought creative ways to bypass the ban.
Through the measure, the government aims to limit exposure to gambling ads among susceptible groups like young adults.
This law was drawn up to protect young adults and other vulnerable groups. You do that by preventing them from being exposed to gambling advertising, regardless of who the advertising comes from. We at KSA will be very vigilant about that.
Commitment to Comsumer Protection
This move is part of the KSA’s ongoing efforts to enhance consumer protection and promote a safe and responsible gambling environment. Earlier this month, the regulator announced that it will continue funding four information projects that inform the public about gambling risks.
In March, the KSA reported shutting down several illegal poker tournaments held in the jurisdiction.
