If your PTSD still kicks in when you hear “Dracarys!”, you might want to look at some of our other slot reviews. However, if you’re looking for a beautifully animated slot with innovative features, a fantasy theme, including a fire-breathing dragon and a badass lady with the power to rein it in, you’ve come to the right place. And no, that’s not the anime.

The Dragon Maiden is a Play’n GO slot and as such, paints a fascinating story both in terms of visuals and features with top-notch graphics and a whopping 7,776 ways to pay. To unleash the full fiery potential of this slot, read on as we unpack all it has to offer. We’ve also got a free demo and real-money casino recommendations, so let’s get this review going.

Dragon Maiden Slot Impresses with Innovative Features

In true Play’n GO fashion, the slot impresses with an innovative twist to the layout and gameplay for that extra oomph we’ve come to expect from the provider. The most standout feature is the expanding reels that increase the pay ways to an astounding 7,776.

Geneth – the maiden herself, can transform into an expanding wild, while the dragon is the scatter. Two dragon symbols will freeze the reels for a re-spin while three and more dragon scatters will unlock the free spins round. During the free games, the reels can increase and award golden spins which take place after the free games on fully expanded reels with maxed ways to win.

Blazing Reels and Flaming Wilds for an Immersive Gameplay

Dragon Maiden, as can be inferred from the title, has a distinctive fantasy theme with beautifully rendered symbols and animations and sound effects that help players fully immerse themselves in the gameplay. The fiery action plays out on scaly reels framed by stones with glowing embers, set at the backdrop of mountains with fire flakes drifting and dragons flying over.

As you put the reels in motion, the symbols forming winning combinations are set ablaze. The dragons come to life breathing fire during the re-spins and free games while the engulfed in flames maiden with glowing eyes means she’s become a wild symbol.

As you can see, no detail has been overlooked when it comes to visuals, and the soundtrack is on par to fully transport you to medieval fantasy, so let’s see what’s required on the technical side of playing the game.

How to Play the Dragon Maiden Slot Online

Dragon Maiden starts with a typical 5-reel, 3-row grid so if you’ve ever played a video slot online, you’ll find the layout familiar. To begin a game, select the size of your bet by clicking on the button with your preferred value – you can choose from 0.20 all the way up to 100, so players of all budgets are catered for.

As we mentioned, the slot pays over 243 ways to win that are permanently enabled in the base game, so there’s no need to select the number of active paylines. Simply hit the Spin button or opt for Autoplay – you can set it to a number of spins between 10 and 100, and you can also select to have it stop after a winning spin, or if free spins are won so, you don’t miss out on the thrill of the expanding reels and golden free spins.

The maiden symbol can become wild at random, expanding up to three reels to help create more winning combinations. When dragon scatters land on two reels, those reels are held in position for a re-spin until no more dragon symbols appear. Three dragon symbols trigger a round of free spins.

All of these features are activated automatically, so the base game of Dragon Maiden doesn’t require much decision making on your part, but you can use the stop button and fastplay to set a faster pace. You will find all settings in the menu next to the sound icon, and should you need to consult the full rulebook of the game, just click on the question mark.

Dragon Maiden Free Games and Golden Spins

The Dragon Maiden free spins are awarded when dragons land on the reels, the more dragons – the more spins, or five dragons – 12 free spins, four dragons – 10 free spins, and three dragons – eight free spins. Dragons are extra powerful during free spins and can expand each reel they land on with one symbol until it reaches the maximum height of six symbols. Each six-symbol reel will earn you one golden spin. Golden spins are awarded after all free spins have been completed, and they’re played on the expanded grid of five reels and six rows that creates 7,776 ways to win unleashing the full fiery potential of the slot.

The Dragon Maiden Slot RTP – Does It Pay Out Well?

Dragon Maiden is a high volatility slot with an RTP of 96.49%. The payouts depend on the size of your bet, for example, the highest-paying symbol, the maiden, pays 2.5x at the lowest bet of 0.2 all the way up to 1,250x when you go for the maximum bet. The other high-paying symbols are a necklace, a ring, a dagger, and a sigil, while the low-value symbols are styled card suits.

In the base game, low-value symbols pay frequently, and re-triggers help land more winnings. The free spins don’t have a multiplier, but the golden spins with fully expanded reels realize the slot’s full winning potential. With the highest fixed jackpot of 5,000x the max bet, the wide betting range and expanding reels, the slot has high variance and volatility, allowing for different betting strategies to be utilized.

What Strategy Works with Dragon Maiden?

We gave the slot a test of 200 spins to see how often it pays out in the base game and how many times we could trigger re-spins and free games. In our experience, the base game pays frequent small wins, and re-spins were triggered at least once every 20 spins.

You have leeway when it comes to strategizing your gameplay with the Dragon Maiden slot thanks to its betting range. You can choose to play at lower stakes and claim the smaller wins while waiting for the free spins or unleash your risky streak and play at max bets to land the highest fixed jackpot. In all cases, a reasonable approach to online gaming calls for smart budget management for at least fifty spins to trigger the free spins.
