Book of Shadows Slot Review Control the Game with the Help of Unique Features
Last Updated:Book of Shadows slot was released by Nolimit City in 2020. It is a horror-themed slot that stands out from the crowd thanks to its variety of features. Players are able to control how many rows are active and lock entire reels if they wish so. At the same time, there is a rewarding free spins round and two gamble games. Keep reading our Book of Shadows slot review to learn exactly what the game has to offer.
Scarily Enjoyable Features
Book of Shadows is a 5-reel slot. By default, the game has 3 rows and 10 fixed paylines; however, it is possible to unlock an extra one or two rows of symbols, which increases the number of paylines to 15 or 20, respectively. Payouts are awarded when enough matching symbols land from left to right along a payline on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel.
In addition to the adjustable rows, the Book of Shadows slot game also offers the ability to lock reels for a cost, there is a free spins round and a couple of gamble features. All of these features are explained in detail in the following Book of Shadows review.
A Comic-Horror Theme
Books of Shadows slot machine has a cartoon-horror theme. It is based upon the ‘Book of Enchantments’, which can change the reality of the world. Similar to other spooky-looking slots, the reels are set against a backdrop of some woods at night while a sinister soundtrack accompanies the gameplay.
The Book of Shadows theme extends to the slot’s symbols. The Book of Shadows itself is the wild/scatter symbol, while the high-value regular symbols include a mystery woman, a cat, a ram’s skull, a butterfly, and an eye in a flask. The lower value symbols are blood red versions of the royals 10 through to A. All of this adds up to create a highly atmospheric and immersive experience that draws players into the action.

How to Play Book of Shadows Slot
Book of Shadows online slot is an easy game to play. Before spinning the reels, players should first decide how many rows they want active, 3, 4, or 5, by clicking on the appropriate place on the reels. Players then need to set their total bet per spin using the controls found to the side of the reels. All that is left to do is click on the spin button to start the reels. There is also autoplay functionality, which can be used to set up to 1000 spins in motion complete with stop conditions, as well as a turbo spin button (the lightning bolt).
The Book of Shadows slot game’s main feature is triggered via the scatter symbol while the other features, the locked reels and the gamble games, are activated using the relevant buttons. Each of these is explained below to ensure that you can make the most of your time playing Book of Shadows slot.
Book of Shadows Slot Game Features
After each base game spin, there is the option to lock up to four of the reels. The cost of locking each reel is determined by how advantageous it is deemed to be, and the price is displayed at the bottom of each reel. This feature should be used with caution; however, in some situations, it can be extremely useful.
Expert tip: If you land two of the three scatters needed to trigger the free spins, then they can be locked on the reels.
The free spins are triggered by landing three or more of the Book of Shadows scatter symbols simultaneously. The number of free spins awarded depends upon the number of rows activated. By default, you win 10 free spins on the number of rows that were active when the spins were triggered. However, it is possible to choose to play them on more rows and reduce the number of spins.
Before the free spins begin, a golden symbol is randomly chosen. When it lands, the golden symbol will then expand on the reels to cover the entire reel if it will form a win. Better yet, these symbols will award payouts as long as there are enough of them on a payline regardless of where they are on the payline. Best of all, the free spins can be retriggered indefinitely.
After each winning base game spin, there is the choice of two gamble features. One of them is a traditional card gamble. Players simply need to guess if the next card drawn from a pack will be red or black, and if they guess correctly, then the payout is doubled. The second gamble is called the Wheel of Bonus, and it gives players the chance to gamble their winnings in exchange for free spins in the Book of Shadows online slot.
In jurisdictions where it is allowed, it is also possible to purchase the free spins. Players can pay 60, 90, or 120 times the bet to purchase 10 free spins on 3, 4, or 5 rows, respectively.

Book of Shadows Playing Tips
Like all slots, Book of Shadows is a game of luck. However, it is worth playing with all five rows active. This increases the slot’s RTP as it gives you more chances of landing a winning combination. Furthermore, it is important to remember that the game is high volatility. This means that you need to ensure that you are betting a sustainable amount per spin so that your bankroll is not drained too quickly.
If you enjoy slots with a scary theme, then we recommend you try some of Nolimit City’s other games, such as Mental and Das xBoot, which will terrify and delight in equal measure through their haunting themes and potential for huge payouts. Otherwise, if you are looking for the exact opposite in terms of atmosphere and theme, you can switch to Tree of Light from Evoplay.

Fully Mobile Optimized
All Nolimit City slots are developed using HTML5. This means that they are optimized for all devices, including desktop, mobile, and tablet. The games can be loaded directly in a web browser without the need to install any special software, and they have been carefully adapted so that the graphics look great and the controls are easy to use.
A Horrifically Good Slot from Nolimit City
The Book of Shadows slot is a brilliantly designed game that fans of horror-themed slots will love. The ability to select how many rows are active and to lock reels gives players a sense of control that other games are lacking. Furthermore, the free spins round is highly rewarding, and the choice of gamble features adds another dimension of fun to the game. As such, it is a slot that is certainly worth spending time playing.
