David Attenborough to join SkyCity as Non-Executive Director
New Zealand’s SkyCity Entertainment Group has announced its plan to appoint former Tabcorp boss David Attenborough as a Non-Executive Director, pending approval by regulatory authorities.
The new appointment will take effect on March 1, 2023, as it remains subject to approval by the regulatory authorities in the different jurisdictions where SkyCity is operational.
Starting from his appointment date, Attenborough will assist SkyCity’s Board of Directors in an advisory capacity.
David has extensive gambling industry and corporate governance and sustainability experience, which will bring considerable expertise to the Skycity board.
Attenborough recently stepped down as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tabcorp after leading the Australian gambling company for 12 years. Before joining Tabcorp in 2009, Attenborough served as the Chief Executive Officer (South Africa) of Phumelela Gaming and Leisure in South Africa.
He has also worked in senior-level positions at various casino and racing organizations. The Sydney-based industry veteran is currently a Non-Executive Director of Hostplus, a superannuation fund.
Last December, SkyCity was in the news for being sued by AUSTRAC (Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre) for failure to comply with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations as well as defying CTF (Counter-Terrorist Financing) Laws.
The company refused to comment on the charges because the matter was already in court.
