Butterfly Staxx Review A Truly Ethereal Game from NetEnt

Butterflies hold a special status in our psyche. Most insects elicit feelings of disgust from us, yet these colorful creatures are universally adored as a thing of beauty. We also associate them with hope and freedom, but most importantly – change.

If you decide to give NetEnt’s Butterfly Staxx a go, you might experience a true metamorphosis in your perception of these majestic animals. The 2017 slot is a mix of trippy sounds, sights, and unusual features that can bring you big rewards. Our review will explain how the magic works and give you the opportunity to play the game for free. We’ve also gathered top offers from the best casinos if you choose to play it with real money. Let’s begin!

Butterfly Staxx: Review of the Features

This slot has a lot of intriguing quirks. Its layout consists of 5 reels and 4 rows, which breaks away from the standard 5×3 matrix that most of its peers use. With the extra row come more bet lines – a total of 40 fixed ones that pay from left to right. When you play Butterfly Staxx, you’ll also encounter Wild substitutions. They can take the shape of any regular symbol on a line to aid you in getting a payout. The wild symbol replaces all symbols except scatters that activate the Butterfly Spins round.

The marquee feature of this game involves re-spins that are activated when an entire reel is covered with butterfly symbols. These two features are explained in more detail in the game tutorial below.

The Butterfly Staxx Online Slot Has a Mesmerizing Vibe

Playing this slot can put you in a Zen state of mind. In the background of Butterfly Staxx, one can see a peaceful valley at sundown. Fireflies move around in the night air, while a big twisted tree with violet buds sits on the left side of the screen. The peaceful atmosphere is augmented by a rather meditative soundtrack.

In the middle, you’ll see the reels. Most of the symbols on them are in the shape of exotic flowers and jacks-through-aces card game ranks. The yellow butterfly tokens are the highest payers and the stars of the show. When you get a successful spin, special animations highlight the winning payline.

The Butterfly Staxx game uses low polygon 3D imagery for every element, which gives it a distinct feel. As expected from a NetEnt product, the quality of the graphics is high, and everything runs smooth.

How to Play the Butterfly Staxx Slot Machine

Are you new to online slots or NetEnt titles? This segment has you covered. Here’s a step-by-step guide to playing this game:

That’s pretty much it. You can check the “i” and “?” buttons to get all the details about the features, paytable, and mechanics of the slot. The “Max Bet” button is something that you might want to avoid here due to the wide betting limits.

The Butterfly Spins

The Butterfly Spins are activated when you land between 3-5 Scatters on the reels. Here, all symbols are replaced with cocoons that can be dormant or active. The latter spawn butterflies that behave in the same way as in the re-spins feature. However, bet line wins are paid out and accumulated on each spin.

Re-Spins Feature

Whenever butterflies cover an entire reel from top to bottom, they move to the leftmost position on the same row that doesn’t have a butterfly symbol on it. After that, the re-spin begins while these glowing creatures stay in place. If another butterfly appears on the new spin, it also repeats the same motion and the process is repeated. When no additional butterflies land, this Butterfly Staxx slots feature stops, and any wins are paid out. The feature creates the possibility of big stacks, hence the name of the game.

Butterfly Staxx – RTP, Variance, and Payouts

The Butterfly Staxx RTP rate stands at 96.8%. This is slightly higher than the 96% average for the genre. NetEnt describes this as a low volatility/risk product, which usually means that you’ll get small to medium payouts on a regular basis. However, our experience is a bit different.

Winning spins occur only about 25% of the time. While the re-spins feature happens often, getting a good payout from it can take time. The bonus mode yields good rewards but getting 3 Scatters does not happen often. The symbol payouts are low, but thanks to the special features, the max payout of this slot is 24,000 coins.

Tips for Getting More Stacks

The low volatility of this slot doesn’t mean that you should go all-in with high bets. In fact, the Butterfly Staxx slot machine will only come up with winning spins 24.3% of the time on average, so you will have to rely on Scatters and favorable re-spins to make a profit.

If you’re gearing for a play session with real cash, it’s advisable to spread your bankroll to place around 100 bets without counting in any potential winnings. Entering the bonus mode or getting more than 2 stacked reels requires patience.

The Butterfly Staxx Game on Mobile

Playing Butterfly Staxx on mobile is just as enchanting as the desktop experience. NetEnt, the studio behind the title, is renowned for its excellent adaptations for iOS and Android portable devices. You won’t miss out on any feature, sound, or animation if you decide to play on your phone or tablet.

On mobile, the button layout is different to suit the nature of touchscreen interaction better. Autoplay, quick spin, and the spin wheel are all melded in a single multifunctional button. The rest of the options are conveniently hidden behind a three-dot menu to free up more real estate on the display.

So, Should You Go for the Butterfly Staxx Slot?

Butterfly Staxx has an X factor that makes it stand out in the crowded online gaming space. Its atypical layout, ambiance, and functionalities are capable of adding another level of variety to your playing sessions.

The only weak point that we’ve noticed is that the game is advertised as low volatility, but it doesn’t really behave like that. This might disappoint some, but it shouldn’t be a problem for those who want to relax in a calming atmosphere and get the occasional thrill of a big win. At the end of the day, it’s a matter of preference and luck. If the pretty bugs were on your side while playing the demo, see if they’ll bring you prosperity at one of our recommended casinos.
